Has anyone ever found a Canadian Journey Series Specimen Note in there change? Or do you have to buy them somewhere.

I believe there is a member that has a Journey Specimen note, but it would be up to them to post it
Besides that one, I have never seen one for sale or for that matter, never seen one anywhere.  My understanding is that some of the banks Head Offices received them when the series first came out.

The angled light red "SPECIMEN" does not appear on the actual note, but the other specimen markings do.

Do you own that note?

Yes, I do. It was on eBay about a year ago at which time I snapped it up. I brought it to the CNA Convention in Niagara Falls last July to show some other collectors. It is the only Journey specimen note known to exist in private hands.

Because its not in the Charlton Cat.

Of course it's not in the Catalogue - there's only one known, and it only sold once.

I would prefer to keep the price paid confidential at this time.

I might consider requesting that it be added to the GPM 22 catalogue next year... we'll see. It will not be in the GPM21.

I thought only the Bank or Printing company owns a specimen note.  Is that true?  You are very very lucky to obtain this note.  Can someone forge a note to become a "specimen?"  How is this controlled or tracked?

The Bank of Canada sold off a large number of surplus specimen notes in the 1990s, including pretty much everything up to and including the Birds Series. Some specimen notes are considered commonly available and others tough with single-digit quantities available.

There was no material from the Canadian Journey Series ever publicly sold by the Bank of Canada, and to date, the above note is the only one known to exist in private hands.

Forging such a note would be difficult although conceivably possible. One can compare the above note with a regular issued note and find several differences, not the least of which is the AOG 0000000 serial number. I assure you though that this note is 100% legitimate.

I remember that listing.  I had the 2nd high bid.  It would have been 'south of the border' if Brent hadn't got it.   ;-)

So do I. I had gone up to $325 myself in the bidding for this unique note only to watch it get sniped by Brent.

The auction closed at 4am.....and I heard my alarm and fell back asleep. I'm still trying to forgive Brent for purchasing 'MY' note
