Value of BC-46aT-i 1973 $1 La-Bo Test Note

Hi all. I have been given the opportunity to purchase a 1973 La-Bo AXA test note.

I am told that it is at minimum Ch Unc. I know that the latest Charlton lists it as being worth $550, but I was wondering what the true rarity of this note is, and what you would be willing to pay for it?

I do not as of yet know if it is steel or litho back.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

It is hard to tell the difference between the steel and the litho. Really the only way to tell is through the serial number ranges. AXA 0.70-0.899M are steel engr. while AXA 0.90-1.10M are lithographaged.  As for the value, i don't think it should be worth more than the $550. In general AXA's aren't all that rare when compared to the 1972 $5 RS and the 1979 $5 3300 notes. You did a geat purchase!

You will see that there are only a few of litho'ed AXA's known, so if your note is a litho (between AXA 0.9M and 1.1M) you have a good note.  Now that some the the number ranges and population numbers are known, I expect the catalogue value for the litho AXA to increase in the next catalogue.
