Lithographed vs. Steel 1979 CBN $20

 THE LAST NOTE WITH ENGRAVED BACK IS 50983239998
AND THE FIRST NOTE WITH LITHO BACK IS 50891440000
 I THINK THAT THE LAST ENGRAVED MUST HAVE A NUMBER LOWER THAN THE FIRST LITHO
LIKE THE FIVE OTHER RANGES ON THAT PAGE,
IF I AM WRONG EXPLAIN ME HOW TO UNDERSTAND WHAT THAT MEAN

Top of the page:

Some of the CBN $20 were printed from steel engraved back plates after the introduction of the lithographed back.

So the next question is, what ranges are steel, and what ranges are lithographed?

The numbers are as given in "Bank of Canada Issues 1969-1989" by J. Graham Esler, CNRS Transactions 1989 pp 65-73.
Footnote 2 on page 73 explains, "Some notes printed from steel engraved plates were printed and numbered after the notes with lithographed backs had been introduced.  Hence, the last note with a steel engraved back has a number higher than the first note with a lithographed back."
