So far, here's my results of my findings after 2.5 weeks of testing the bank machines in Vancouver and going through countless number of crisp uncirculated notes (everything I see is green)...

EYG3781873
EYH9160619 - readable upside down.
EYH9818189 - readable upside down
EYJ8688868 - readable upside down
AYW7876787 - is this called a wave radar?
AYW9562659

I am sure there's more to find out there!  You just have to be there at the right place, at the right time and have a high enough daily withdrawal limit.

not being an insert type believer or collector; however; are any of those notes inserts? If so; would them also being radars matter?

I have a $2000 withdrawal limit. I hate bloody TD machines who give out only $100 in $20s, then the rest in $50s (this may be good for new $50s). Scotiabank, when I enter $1000, I get $1000 in $20s. I like that. I have found about 4 radars so far.

No they are not inserts/yes it would give them a much higher premium should they have been both inserts and radars.
The great thing about royal bank is that there machines only give 20's so it gives you the chance to find all sorts of stuff. From their machines in the past i found many EIX and AIX notes, the occasional insert, the occasional 1979 20, and best of all 4 AIW with serifs (thiessen)!

I have found that $20 notes varieties are the easiest to obtain and the most difficult to sell.  Seems nobody wants to pay above face value for radars and replacements, even older issues.  I'd much prefer if bank machines gave out withdrawals in tens and fives  ;)  I purchased a few five dollar radar notes recently, and sold them within hours.  But I've had most of the same bluddy $20 radars for years.

If any politician wants to get kicked out of office, he/she should replace the $5 bill with a coin  ;D

Are you listening Mr Martin??

Nobody likes $20 radars. On the first day the new $5 came out, I got a friendly bank teller to go to the vault, and pick out a nice 2-digit radar. I went to my local collector store, and instantly sold it for $50.

By the way, I also do not collect inserts, as I am doubtful if they really are. Notes with an X were the best way to tell.

Current rumour has it..that the BoC is maybe going back to "X" or "*"..apparently they are dissatisfied with whats going on via the insert route...

I hope the rumour turns out to be true.  The lengths to which collectors go to obtain insert notes is ruining the hobby.  There will always be people buying bricks of notes, but I think there will be less people buying bricks if replacement notes start coming out with X's or asterisks.  Having identifiable replacement notes will supress the market for these items, kind like how thiessen-Crow X-notes are worthless right now, but it may help restore some lustre to radar notes.

Good for you.  I hope you were smart enough not to tell the banker that bit of info, or he/she might cut out the middleman on a future transaction  ;)

Once, I also went to a CIBC branch, seeking new Journey $10s, days after they were relased. I swapped for 25 of them, I see they are about 100 notes away. I asked her, do you have blah....blah this number? She pulls out 5 stacks of the notes and lets me go through them. I got what I want, and still have it. But sometimes, when I get new notes at branches, I feel bad sometimes for asking for notes like radars.........etc....... ATM machines are a good source, but all they do is spit out 20s, and 50s, which not very many collectors want it. Take for example a 2-digit $50 I once pulled out of a TD machine, I got about $100 for it, it was offered for 6 months before someone wanted it. $5 and $10 bills are the best. RBC machines used to have $5, but they are all gone............. :'( I have discovered a Scotiabank ATM, that gives out $50, $10s. Everytime I use it, they have UNC $10 bills, but they are always 400-600 notes from the radar, or was just passed out probably a few minutes ago (like 14 notes ago, there would be a radar). A $40 withdrawal gets you 4 $10s............. ;D We need more machines like these to spread out $10s, like Jonathan said.............

I would love to see the X or even better... the star returning. These new inserts are horrible because they have to fall into a certain number range its really annoying besides Americans still use the star, why cant we?

Hello every one!

I don't want to brag but, once, between Christmas and new years day, my financial councelor at the bank called to tell me that the bank had received 15000$ of brand new 5$ and 10$ of the bird series. She asked me if I wanted to go in the vault with her to check the bundles. Even though I was in my overall I rapidly changed myself and immediatly went to the bank. I got out of there with my fingers violet and blue from the ink on the bills I manipulated. This was one of the nicest chrismas gift I have ever had.

Fortunately it was just before the change of the 10$ to the new series and I found a nice UNC BEF Knight Thiessen on top of a bundle. This would in a way confirm that BEF's were used as inserts too. I also got some radars in 5's and 10's as well as interesting serial numbers as BEGXXXX100, 200, 300, 400, etc...

Unfortunately, She moved on with her carreer and I have never been able since then to get this kind of confidence from another councelor.

By the way would my BEF being an insert worth more than another that was not? As it been ever suspected that this situation has occured?

Have a nice day!

;D
