1937, '54, '71 notes

Hi there,
Just joined this group after spending (way too much) time online researching Canadian paper currency. Looks like I have come to the right place!

I have found looking online that most of my collection doesn't appear to be of much value, but there are a couple of bills that I am wondering about so I have listed them below. They are circulated notes, but generally speaking are in good shape. Each is in slightly different condition -  some on crisp bright paper - others not so much, have bumped corners, or a number written on them here or there, crease lines.

Printing irregularities - I have noticed that many are cut poorly - not centered, not aligned, some notes are slightly smaller or larger than the others as well. It's been fun looking up serial numbers and such, but hoped I could post here for further help.

Also, is there a website where a novice can find out how many were issued, or how rare a bill really is?

Also, sequentially numbered note series - $1's (1973), 2's (1986) - is it best to keep them in their numerical order and not split up sequentially numbered sets? These bills seem to have never been circulated.

Thanks in advance for any ideas on their general values! I realize that a person would have to have the items properly evaluated, but for these serial numbers I have listed above, I would like a further opinion on from yourselves.

Go to any Chapters and you can pick up a copy of the Canadian Government Paper Money Catalogue
It will have ALL the info you need.
Includes qty printed, value ranges depending on grade of note (also info on how to grade a note) plus a tremendous amount of other info.
As far as websites are concerned, I think this is the best one around for papermoney
There are a lot of knowledge people here that could probably answer most if not all of your paper money questions.

More newbie questions:

Are there any (of the above old Canadian bills) which I've listed that I should hang on to? Looking for some guidance from forum members on perceived value. Perhaps the Devil's Face bills or the 1937 issues?

Another question for you - if a person turns old bills into the bank, are they destroyed? I would hate to take an old $1000 bill in for exchange (as there appears to be no collector value with them at this time), only to find that the bank destroys it and it's gone forever. Do banks turn the bills over to collectors?

I would say that any old bills that are returned to the banks are likley to just be destroyed.  There are some collectors that may be lucky enough to be called should something come in if they have some type of in with a bank teller, but I would not count on it....once they get passed on..they will likely never see the light of day again.

I am quite sure that the 1000 dollar notes will be destroyed.  They were discontinued due to money laundering.  The BOC of posts a list of liabilities every year.  You see the number of discontinued notes going down every year, except for the rare notes.
