1954 $1000 thiessen crow

i have a new $1000 thiessen crow 1954 bill .i got it in the early 1990's from a bank in the US . what is the value of it and should i get it graded ? i am in the vancouver area . where should i take it ? thanks

the bill has a slight curl to it .

Book value is probably a hundred or two more then face but they are usually difficult to get close to book value.
Grading cost is likely to be more then the added value.
I like J&M at boadway and main.

I looked on J and M 's web site and they have one advertised for $3000 and they say the book value is $2600, so i might take it to them . from what i have read , they took back all these bills they could find , and destroyed them

$1000 bills are a tough sell because they're so expensive and relatively common, with a few exceptions.

Realistically I could only see you getting a few hundred more than face despite what the book may say.

I would tend to agree...and remember a dealer won't be giving you anywhere near

i have 2 of them . this is the other . i used to have 6 of them , all serial numbers in a row. i spent 4 of them at face value by folding them up and sticking them in my wallet and cashing them at the bank . that was in the 90's. , looking at the value of them , it looks like they were worth more back then

Yeah, $1000s are a rotten investment. Inflation more than eats up any appreciation in collector value.Sell it now while you can.

The Thiessen-Crow is one of the less common signature combinations and you should have less trouble finding an interested buyer than if it were one of the more common varieties. But I agree with the others that you should expect to get quite a bit less than what the book says it will sell for.

The auction last Friday proved to be absolutely dismal for $1000 bills. Even the Devil's Face notes did poorly and realized below book value after premiums, although they were in lower grades.
