So I just picked up the following note...

GPZ 2518152

Now to assign a value to it I looked in the Charlton.... GPZ unc is listed at $40 (pg 318)

but in the back under radars a $5 radar is listed at $30...

So is what premium value would be given to the prefix GPZ for being a radar (if there is any at all?) or is this just to be taken for book value at around $40?

FYI, The GPZ price you are referring to is the one that has a serial between 9 Million and 9.8 Million (BC-56eA)

The one you have is the regular GPZ issue (BC-56e) and is worth $9 in Unc.

So There wouldn't be any premium and it would just follow the 4 Digit Radar Price



HOWEVER... IF you did have the BC-56eA and if it were a radar then it could be more valuable to a Prefix or Radar collector only because within the 9 Million to 9.8 Million Serial Range, finding radars would be harder since only 800,000 notes exist

So for interest sake.. how would one determine the value of something like that.. where the prefix is in demand AND you have an interesting serial number...

Is there any basic percentage above book.. or some formula that can give a ball park figure?

Nope just a battle of wits between buyer and seller. You'd basically have to find someone that is a fancy serial collector AND a prefix collector inorder to have a chance of getting a combined high price.

Radar collectors generally seem uninterested in anything special... short prefixes, inserts, etc.  Combination notes are indeed hard to evaluate in price.  They should be valuable, but realistically, there are very few people impressed by them.
