I got this 54 Lawson-Bouey $1 note today and noticed that the lettering has some green dots on it and that the lettering on the note appears to be high and right to the green background when compared to other notes.  Is this a mis-alighned plate error and if so what might it be worth?

So are these dots in the lettering normal?

Maybe I'm just not seeing what you're talking about, but this looks like a perfectly normal note.

I am referring to the green dots on top area of the lettering "BANK OF CANADA".  Normal?

Firstly the clarity of your photos is just amazing. It is often difficult to get this level of detail in scans. You must have a steady hand doing macro work.

In any case the thing that is seen in your image is related to registration or lack of between offset printing from different plates and/or the intaglio printing

I am  not familiar with those notes but in $5, $10 and $20 dollar journey notes that I have examined these kinds of things are common.

Even in the frontier notes there are certain places where these types of things happen and are commong.

Generally in the design of notes there will be some tolerance for such out of registration printing. I study the visual impact of minor out of registration printing compared to the design intent. There are some unusual visual impacts created by these out of registration and a designer of good banknotes will ensure that these are minimized.

If you notice in your note very carefully it is not just the green dots that are showing in an area where they normally would not but also the grey lines are going into the white band.

I am not sure what is normal in these notes and the level of variation that one can expect.  In fact studying variation of registration of multiple notes allows one to break out the printing sequence of the different parts of the notes.

Like with everything else I would not be surprised if this really does not excite most collectors. But thank you for sharing such wonderful detailed photographs.

Wonder what paper money would say if it could talk?

Based on the scan, nothing out of the ordinary. Your note is worth $5.
