One of the things that is likely to change is the design that is related to the provision of printing along the edges for the bank note readers for the visually impaired.
Ever since the Bird Series the BoC has elements on the Bank Notes that facilitates their reading by a bank note reader.
These elements manifest themselves on the edges of the notes along the short edges.
The bird series notes were readable on both the edges.
The journey series notes were readable only on one edge.
The frontier series notes were readable again on both edges.
Recently the Bank of Canada has moved away from the old bank note reader to a one similar to the one that is being promoted in the US for the FRNs. This new technology does not require any special printing embedded into the note as was done in the previous three series.
If the BoC continues with this new technology of the bank note reader (which currently looks like it will - it has a large contract awarded to a company with the same name as the US based bank note reader company) then one could expect some design changes in this regard.
