I think what I should have asked was what do you think the top 5 hardest 2000/2004 pre-Security upgraded notes are?

Excellent question bound to stir up the pot a little...

For Journey $10 insert prefixes (as far as what we've seen for sale, asking prices, feedback from excellent sources, and other info, etc)

I'd put my money on the following:

1) 2002 K/D FEN
2) 2000 K/T FDU
3) 2003 J/D BEK*
4) 2004 J/D BER*
5) 2000 K/T FDZ
6) 2001 K/D FEC
7) 2002 K/D BEI
8) 2000 K/T FDV
9) 2000 K/T FDT
10) 2002 K/D FED

* I think the "jury" is still out deliberating on these two inserts so its too early to say...they could very likely be contenders for the top spot with FEN and FDU.

AS for non-inserts (which are equally or more important  than inserts in this series)
1) 2003 BER
2) 2003 BEL
3) 2003 BEK*
4) 2000 FDY
5) 2001 FEE
6) 2001 FDZ
7) 2003 BEP**
8) 2004 BET
9) 2004 BER**
10) 2002 FEN
* Again, its still a mystery exactly how scarce the 2003 BEK non-insert is and it may give BEL a run for the money. 2003 BEP and 2004 BER could well be contenders for 4th and 5th spot but I think there's been quite a few saved in UNC condition, which have kept their prices down.  I suspect hoards of BET's and definitely FENs

NOTE:  I just bumped up the BET over the BER (2004) as I feel (from what I've seen) that its definitely the rarer of the two

I'd like to know if you are including ranges in this question, or just the prefixes.

Arthur,
You're off to a great start there!
(esp the 2003 BER, BEL and BEP)

When you ask this question you need to provide more info than just the years.  When it comes to the Journey (pre-security) series all logic flies out the window when it comes to numbers printed, and actual numbers out there (eg 2003 BER), and to discuss the years the notes were printed without prefixes is simply pointless.

I think the fact that there are several inserts and non-inserts that are so rare -- makes this series the most exciting one to collect in a long time.  If the prices being paid for them aren't proof in the pudding, I don't know what is.  Don't get me wrong, I have my biases towards earlier series too, but this pre-security series has been so full of surprises that it will keep collectors hopping for some time.  The fives are cool too, but not nearly as exciting as the $10's.  I suppose when the fives are upgraded they will get pretty popular too.

Yes, I would almost kill for a BEL, it is the last note I need to complete my original Journey $10 collection  ::) It has proven almost completely impossible to track down  :'(

I have found in my change:

BER 2004 insert and non-insert
BEP x 7
BEJ, BEM, BEN, BET, BES
BER 2003 x 2  :o

I hope that the BEL comes my way soon...

I have a somehwat unfair advantage- I am a cashier with a (very) understanding boss who lets me keep what I like from the till as long as I set it aside and replace it while he is present... It is at work that I have found all of my notes but one of the BEPs.

I could have gotten you a BEL for the 2003 BER you offered earlier (amongst other notes) but you wouldn't reply to my two PM's  :'(

Here is my 2 cents regarding 5's and 10's

FEP
AOB 2.240 - 2.320
BEK 9.338 - 9.382
BEI 0.990 - 1.026
HNM 3.120 - 3.180
HNM 2.440 - 2.460

At least I have had a very difficult time trying to aquire these and still no luck. :'(   Any Help ??

I agree that FDU and FEN are tough also, but at least they were available at one point.
