As some of you who know me, know I'm not really a serious collector for Journey Notes.
I do however when they are available get 5-10 from the bank if they are UNC to
try and collect the different prefixes.

Today I was in the bank and I asked the lady if she had any new ones and could
I have $ 50 bucks worth and I got 3 HOH inserts and one note with the serial
number HOK 8889999. I dunno if this is anything other than a nice serial

It nearly matches my HOY 8887777!  Don't just spend it (unless it is already battered up maybe)

I like 2 digit notes and would definitely consider that a keeper or worthy of eBay (if you don't care for them).

I was around in 1972...although I probably didn't have my first tooth until the Spring of that year...

And at least you still HAVE your *I/X, now booking at $1,100!  That works out to a return of 15.8% every single year, for each of the past 34 years, on your original investment of $7.50!  

In the mid-80s I bought an UNC 1974 $2 *UG note for $4.50.  In 1990 I sold it for $20.00.  Naturally I thought I had turned a good profit - $15.50 in 5 or 6 years.  Now that *UG is worth $325.00!!

At least you weren't the poor sod who sold UNC $10 BEL's for $14 or $16 before anyone clued into their rarity.

Thats OK James. 15 years ago I sold AU 1935+37 $ 1000's for $ 1500 each and that was just the beinning. I sold off my entire collection when I bought my first house.

I recall you telling me that story at Torex...its a sad one for sure (in hindsight) but at least you can claim to owning those rare beauties.

Right now there's about a dozen people camped outside the clubhouse across from my condo unit waiting to buy a condo.  This is their second night they've been camped there for over 48 hours to sign up for the next development.  Hard to believe huh?  What we'll do to own a piece of property!

But back on the topic of finding beautiful notes at the bank.. I gave up some time ago (when Sudz was finding all the UNC BEK replacements and I was withdrawing tons of $10's and finding only 2 ratty ones!)  I need to have another garage sale!  heh did I mention that's the best way to find older money?  Yeah we had a small one this past summer and out of 5 tens I received 2 were from the old series. Seems like these "garage sale maniacs" hang onto their money for longer than your avg JOE!

Now I hang out at shows and try to find the odd G/R $2.00 note (and get it for $3.00) or wiggle some other deal out (have I bragged about the $2 EBX 3939396 which is only 3000 away from my previous EBX 3936396 yet?) . Yes, I've given up on the bank and have opted for the odd show hoping a dealer has missed out on a rarity (or to complete a set).  In Paris I got a $2.00 L/R (short prefix) for regular UNC price (though it wasn't really unc it was still a bargain with the trade I made).  I hang around BWJM, Polarbear, or Oli and watch how those "sharks" scoop up a deal..and try to follow their lead.  The only problem is if you end up behind them your likely not to find too many "scraps."   My goal is to become like "eyevet" or "Tom" and be so satisfied with my Canadian collection that I start searching exotic world notes!  I'm also trying to spend less and get more...

By the way, the BEL's were going for $13 ea, and I thought they were too expensive (as though I could go and find them the next day).
Don't forget about the poor sap who sold EF BEL's for $40, or BEP's for $13, a pair of *JC $100s for $2300 or so..., HOG 9.9 inserts for $22.50, and even gave 2 digit radar notes away at face for change from an ebay deal (2 of them to be exact).  I won't say who that person is, but when I think about all the crazy things that have happened, my eyes just bug out.  I guess this is the same person who was nailing a few BER 03's in change in Edmonton, so there is some goods too I guess.  

No such luck at shows though, they seem to get here after being picked over by those that know exactly what is going to happen next. Heck the last Edmonton show, there were no more radars after 12noon on the first day!

Well I think I know who you're referring to, and I'd have a lot more sympathy for him if he'd had considered me as a buyer for some of his spare BELs or BERs when I was paying him well for other notes he was selling!! I sure never was a part of that legendary great SALE  ... (which --by the way-- I think I warned him  not to sell the "farm for a song"...as the saying goes... )

I'm sure all of us have our classic tale of woe...when it comes to Great Canadian paper money "give-aways"  Maybe there should be a new thread for that???
