Just toying around with an idea here.... (This is by no means a binding vote, or even anything official)
Regarding the annual journal and the quarterly newsletters, consider changing the frequency of each item.

Should the journal be printed once per year? Twice? Not at all?
Should the newsletters go out once every month? Every two months? Three? Four? Six?
If you have any other thoughts or comments, feel free to post them.

I like the Journal as it is for topics/themes that are too large to deal with in the newsletters so I favour continuing with those.  The quarterly format for the Newsletter is fine as well as there may not be enough contributors for a more frequent distribution and this would escalate costs.

Another possibility not mentioned is that if the Journal was not produced, perhaps some of the money saved from that could be used to fund more frequent newsletters, and/or larger newsletters (currently 32 pages each). With a larger newsletter, the material that used to be in the journal could move to the newsletter.

This is all just idle brainstorming. I am simply curious about what people think. Unless there is a very strong opinion one way or another, I wouldn't expect anything to come of this.

I like the idea of more journals. Maybe the newsletters could move to the website of CPMS (with possibly a members only access to keep funds coming in).

Since it is just idle brainstorming, let me give some idle thoughts, which i am sure you have seen before in the earlier discussion of e-cpms.
  1, To save money, members could choose to receive the newsletter by email, thus saving money and environment.
  2, Journals are interesting, so far but too expensive and too deep or academic, only for experts,  perhaps members who really want them should pay for them , from what I saw, they are easily worth $50 each  (but I won't want it since I am not so deep into it ) and many libraries and organizations would want them.

I like how it is right now.  

I agree with the comment that there may not be enough material for more newsletters unless the Journal is removed.

I would either say leave it, or 6 Newsletters a year (With some color).  

Remember, the people who put the newsletter together have day jobs and/or other obligations.  They are not fully compensated for the effort they put into it, unless our collective "thanks" is enough.

Correction: "They are not fully compensated..."

It is interesting stuff to throw on a resume perhaps.

I think it is good the way it is right now.  Too much, and then the "value" of them goes down. When there is space, there is some waiting going on.  For the writers, that is alot of uncompensated work- as was mentioned.

Regarding costs, I do not think CPMS members would mind an increased cost associated with more newsletters as most members find these well worth the money. I think the problem with 6 newsletters a year would be finding content and keeping up the quality.
