There was a report last night on CBC Radio on how Europeans feel about their new euro notes. Most who were interviewed hated them. Windows on one side, bridges on the other side (none of which are reproductions of real windows or bridges), no portraits, no literature, nada. Nothing that indicates a national or pan-European identity. "Currency of nowhere land," one said.
Others decried the loss of "nicknames" on their country's previous notes, saying that no nicknames are really appropriate for the new notes. Gotta love the Spaniards, though, for coming up with a nickname for the €500 note: "bin Laden." It seems that nobody has seen one for a long, long time.
