I've recently inherited a collection of bills. Some good and some better. My question is "if" I was going to try to sell them what is the best way of doing so? I realize that going into a local dealer would be convenient but I assume you would get a lower price. Are there general auctions in the that people like myself might be able to put one or two bills into? I've never sold anything on Ebay and it kind of scares me to think that some might sell even lower then what one would get from a local dealer.

For the 1954 $1's I've got:

*A/A 0002176 crisp bill no folds
*A/A 0016565 has been folded and has been circulated
*A/A 0032350 has been circulated, couple of folds
*A/A 0049947 crisp bill, no folds
*A/A 0049948 crisp bill no folds.

Last question, I know for coins there are places where you can send them and they are recognized bodies. Is there such an organization for paper money as well? And would it be in my best interest to have at least the *A/A 0002176 graded professionally?

Thanks for your help.

Some important notes:

1) What are the signatures on the notes?
2) Are these Devil's Face or modified notes?
(A good explanation of this can be found at http://www.cdnpapermoney.com/English/BoC/1954D.htm and http://www.cdnpapermoney.com/English/BoC/1954D_1.htm )

Because depending on the signature and type (Devil's Face or modified) these could be worth a fair amount of money.

Hi Rod,

The serial numbers of these notes tell you what you need to know.

*A/A 0002176 crisp bill no folds
This note is a 1954 Devil's Face *A/A replacement note signed Coyne/Towers. Its value could exceed $5,000 depending on condition.

*A/A 0016565 has been folded and has been circulated
This note is a 1954 Devil's Face *A/A replacement note signed Beattie/Coyne. Its value could exceed $4,000 depending on condition, but most likely in the $1,000 range based on your description.

*A/A 0032350 has been circulated, couple of folds
This note is a 1954 Modified *A/A replacement note signed Beattie/Coyne. Its value is likely about $20.

*A/A 0049947 crisp bill, no folds
*A/A 0049948 crisp bill no folds.
These notes are also 1954 Modified *A/A replacement notes signed Beattie/Coyne. Their value could exceed $120 each depending on condition.

Should you decide to get these notes professionally graded, I would recommend Banknote Certification Service (BCS) located in Kitchener, Ontario. You can find their website at http://www.banknotecertification.com.

Also, should you decide to sell any of these notes, I would suggest first offering them for sale here on the forums in the Trading Post. The Canadian Paper Money Forums are visited by a variety of collectors, many of whom would be very interested in these notes. I would expect that any offers obtained here would be comparable to any major numismatic auction, but without all the fees.

We also have registries for the Devil's Face replacement notes. I would personally appreciate it if you could scan the front of both of your notes and email the scans to me. I have added the notes to the registry, but would really like to include scans please. The registry is located here:

I hope this information is helpful. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sounds like you have some nice stuff, i am interested to know what other notes you inhereted. If you are interested in selling, you can use the "trading post" section of this forum as i am sure (like the *A/A's) you would have no problem finding a buyer.
