American Star Notes

I bought a book to find out some values i have for some american  money.. but in the book is dosn't say anything about Star Notes ...any books you recommend or when can i find some values for the notes ?

There are 2 books you should consider.

1. Standard Guide To Small Size U.S. Paper Money 1928 To Date  Version 8 just released. Authors Oaks and Lindquist.
2. Paper Money of the United States : A Complete Illustrated Guide With Valuations. Art & Ira Friedberg...get the 18th edition.

That should help. as far as books.

For magazines: the price guides in them are not good enough for star notes in my opinion for this reason. For Federal Reserve Notes, green seals, rarity and value of some of the notes depends on which federal Reserve bank they were released from. One from Boston may be very rare while all the notes release from the other 11 reserve banks may have little premiums assigned. Such is the case for $2 star notes. Magazine price guides do not break down the star note valuations by issuing banks. They just "generalize" pricing. TO me thats not reliable and a discredit to currency collecting.

The Legal Tender $5 from 1928 (I assume there is no letter used in the issue ie A or B or C or D etc.)
Listed  from BNR (Bank Note Reporter) price guide Fine=15, XF=25, CHCU=100, Gem=155. Expect market price to be less.

According to the Standard Guide To Small Size U.S. Paper Money 1928 To Date, 6th Edition (it's since been updated to the 8th), your notes are valued as follows. All prices are for notes grading "Choice Uncirculated," which is essentially perfect "as-made" condition.

The 1928 note is actually from Series 1928F, based on the serial number. The other notes may be from other series (ie: 1969A/B/C/D or 1963A/B. It is impossible to tell based on the serial number alone.

thanks for the info guys ... i don't have too much american money but i can see it's not as fun to collect ..everything just seems to be clumped together

Oh, a good book for US notes is:  The Officail Red Book:  United States Paper Money by Arthur L. & Ira S. Friedberg.  You can get this from Amazon somewhere $15~$20.  I hope this helps.
