I have four Devil's Face 1954 $50 notes, two are Coyne/Towers in F condition, they are soiled and fairly worn. I have two more one is Coyne/Towers and the other Beattie/Coyne in VF condition. I was thinking of spending them since they are not in very high condition. They are not replacement notes either, just common serials. Should I just spend them or could I get more than face for them? On average the book value of these notes says they are worth about $100-140. Also to sell you would only get 60% of book value which doesn't seem to leave much profit over face, maybe $20?

There are many young collectors and newer collectors compiling mid-grade collections as for them buying Unc notes is out of the budget.  I would start by offering the notes for sale here in the trading post.  As you point out, you may not make a big profit, but you may make someone's day, and even a little profit is better than nothing.

I'm not sure why you would want to spend them when you could make a profit off of them, even if it is a modest $20.  That's a third of the way to the price of a brand new HP 12C calculator (highly recommended if you prefer doing your calculations in Reverse Polish Notation).

Instead of spending them, sell them to me!  I'd be willing to buy them from you for $60 a piece.

If you have not allready spent them ???  I would also be willing to offer you 70.00 for 1 of them. What with high grade notes fetching $300 to 800 I am not able to afford them either :'(. If you have a digital camera or scanner some pictures of them would be great.
