I recently inherited an envelope full of old bills.
There are 7 different 1937 bills.
2 - 1's in not so good condition
3 -10's in good condition
2 - 20's in excellent condition
A bunch of 1954 1's, 2's, 5's, 10's & 20's in mint condition - I don't think ever used!
Some 1967 1's.
And lots of 1969 & 1979 bills.
WHAT DO I DO WITH THESE?
I am not an avid collector but I don't want to just take these to the bank as they are probably worth more than face value.
ANYONE OUT THERE WITH SUGGESTIONS FEEL FREE TO COMMENT!!!

Your notes are mostlikely valued more than the face value

If you are able to post some pictures of your notes I am sure we can help you out. Fell free to send them to my address jcaissic296@rogers.com and I can post them on your behalf.

Cheers

have been told that it is benficial to list the serial #'s, names & conditions of the bills to see if they are worth anything...so here it goes:
1937 $1 - NL3690295 Gordon? & Towers OK condition
1937 $1 - ZL8683298 Gordon? & Towers OK condition
1937 $10 - JD7248658 Gordon? & Towers Good condition
1937 $10 - OD5743586 Gordon? & Towers Good condition
1937 $10 - DT6518665 JEIsyne? & Towers Very Good condition
1937 $20 - CE0433030 Gordon? & Towers Very Good condition
No bills have rips or tears but when I say OK condition it means they have old creases, good is maybe one old crease and very good is no creases.

Sorry to list all those...where else can I find info.
I would also like to find out if my 1969 and 1979 bills are worth more than face value.
AS WELL, how can I trust people who want to buy these...I thought maybe by getting a bit of idea on this site as to what they are worth I would'nt get "taken" by anyone...???!!!
HUGE THANKS!

If you go to your local public library and look for Charlton's Canadian Government Paper Money catalogue. It gives you all the info needed to properly grade a note and all the values attached to them. If you can't find the catalogue at the library you can usually find it at your local Chapter's book store. Cost is usually around $20.00. 8)

Having taken a quick peruse of the notes you have listed, I can see several that could be of significant value, depending on their true grade.  Notable are the following:

*TX0006119 Beattie & Raminsky VG Cond  (this is probably an *I/X and not *T/X
*NX0042996 Beattie & Raminsky VG Cond.

This is not to say that the others are worthless but the two above can range in value up to $1000 - $1500

AS WELL, how can I trust people who want to buy these...I thought maybe by getting a bit of idea on this site as to what they are worth I would'nt get "taken" by anyone...???!!!

The best way to protect yourself and insure you get the best value for the notes you have is to educate yourself to what you have in your possession.  For a minimal investment of about $20 you can get the newest catalogue of Canadian Government Paper money at any Chapters bookstore.

Here is a link to the book that you should purchase.  The book has guidelines for grading the notes, as well as, detailed listings for each note and catalogue value based on grade.

Until you have had a chance to get a catalogue, I would advise against accepting any offers for your notes.

Thank you for the info.
I will definitely be going to the book store this afternoon.
I live in a small rural community & I am not a collector so will probably be selling these bills.
After doing my research, how do I go about selling any bills I may want to sell?  How do I know who is reputable?

Depending on where you live, you may want to look for a coin or paper money dealer that is close by.  Have them look at your notes and make you an offer.  I would not take the first offer but try to get several quotes.

The other option is to go to one of the many numismatic shows across Canada that may be near your home.  There is usually a large number of dealers at these shows so you could get multiple quotes in one place.

Here is a website link that lists all upcoming shows:

The Canadian Association of Numismatic Dealers;

http://www.cand.org/membership.html

Now we all have our favorites, and feel some are better then others.

You may feel that this is like any used car sales person, some will tell you the truth, and some may try and twist it. So protect yourself as mentioned, get educated on your notes, and get a few quotes

When Elwoodblue (posted above) gave info. on the 1979 bills, what does it mean with the numbers in quotes - eg "510"...it is obviously something i need to look for on the bill.  Is it in the serial #?? Beginning or end? or something like that?

Sorry about that, it would be the beginning of the serial number. I also had trouble with the alignment of the chart.
