I believe that the three white dots on the right side of the note face resulted from pulled planchettes. Planchetted bank note paper was been used for Canadian notes, although not continuously, beginning with the 25ยข fractional issue of 1900. After a few years of use the finance department became concerned about notes being disfigured when planchettes wore off, and temporarily discontinued their use for Dominion notes until late in the Princess Patricia $1 issue, when they were restored. Apparently technological improvements had been made, making the planchettes adhere better.
