Hello fellow collectors:

I recently returned from a trip to Japan.  During my trip, I had the opportunity to visit the Bank of Japan in Tokyo.  It was such an awesome tour where I was able to see the huge vaults with skids of brand new notes.

The 2,000 Yen Bank of Japan notes are legal tender, but have a limited issue and are hard to find.  They have some amazing security features on the notes and are very colourful and beautiful.  More details are below (with details scans).  A very educational section that I made discussing about this note.

Also included on this discussion is a glossy, colourful information sheet that was only made available to people who took the tour at the Bank.  The page is double sided, titled "Valid Bank of Japan Notes" (see scans below).

The measurement of the 2,000 yen note is 76 mm x 154 mm.

Enjoy,

Michael

The 2,000 yen note carries more diversified anti-counterfeiting features than existing denominations of banknotes (1,000 yen, 5,000 yen, and 10,000 yen).

Latent Image

When the banknote is viewed from a certain angle, the number "2000" appears on the bottom left of the front side, and the word "NIPPON" ("Japan" in Japanese) on the top right of the back side.

Color-shifting Ink

The number "2000" on the front top right-hand corner changes its color from bluish-green to purple when viewed from different angles.

Luminescent Ink

The Governor's seal on the front side glows orange under ultraviolet light. Likewise, the blue parts of the background pattern fluoresce yellowish-green.
