It depends on the note and the series.   For current notes - Choice Unc or better.  For Chartered notes whatever is available and within my budget.  I still love a '54 replacement in an uber grade but the market is now quite week.  Most of these notes did not sell in the December CNC Auction.

For me it has always been UNC or better.
I would love all gems but I go for UNC so I can have some quantity.

I have always tried to get a minimum of unc in a note, but I know that is unrealistic in many cases if you are on a tight budget :)
