Greetings.
Back in the late 70's my wife worked at a bank in Ottawa. One of her duties was to log in shipments of new bills. I asked her if she should see any notes with "cool" serial numbers could she get them. She asked her manager and he said "no problem, just replace them with other notes".
   Over the next year (or so), she got two 1974 $2 notes for me.  I put them in a frame, hung them up for a while and them put them in my bureau where they have resided for the last 30+ years.
  We're in the process of moving, I found them while packing and decided to look to see if they are worth anything and was happily surprised. That's how I ended up here.
  I'm looking for advice on where to sell them ....private? auction,?...  and what the values might be
Below is a scan of  them (hopefully) they are both in perfect condition.
   Your help will be greatly appreciated

The 1974 $2 with the prefix RS is a "test note".  Being the #1 test note it has significant market value.

It would be difficult to guess what it would go for at auction but I would suspect it would sell for $5000+ based on its significance.

I would definitely recommend that you sell it at auction and not sell it privately or to a dealer.  There is no doubt that you will receive the highest possible price listing it with a high profile auction house.

Thanks Arthur. That's truly great news...... nothing like this has ever happened to me before. It reminds me of one of those "Antique Roadshow " moments. I'll keep in touch, and let you know what happens.

An amazing find.  Notes like these normally only exist in the Bank of Canada's Currency Collection.

Did your wife happen to save any of the other low serial number notes with the "RS" prefix ?

If so, you may have just won the lottery.

I think you already have.

I agree with Arthur's advice 100%.  If you're going to sell that RS 0000001 note, do it by major auction.  A note like that should never have escaped the Bank of Canada's currency collection, but it has, and it's a trophy note to whoever possesses it now and in the future.  Surreal.
 

First time i ever see a #1 note in a test note. Very unusual. This is an official new low, the old low i believe for RS is RS0000041. If all goes well we should see the updated range in the next charlton Cat.

Holy smoke... RS0000001, on a test note no less.  This is like finding the holy grail!

One of the forum member in Singapore only collect #5 solid no notes!  If he still here, he may contact you ....  (sorry I can't recall his user name)
