1979 $20 Crow-Bouey Notes

I have a question concerning the 1979 Crow-Bouey $20 notes prefix 50.
In Charlton it lists last Steel Engraved note printed: 50983239998 and first Lithographed back note printed: 50891440000. These ranges overlap each other. So what do we have in the range 5089144000-5098323998? Are they mixed with lithographed notes and steel engraved notes. Or is there a typo in charlton? Hopefully someone might know

I vaguely remember somethings about $20 1979 series changeover  being discussed in CPMS newsletter. It seemed the changeover reported in Charlton was incorrect (earlier than actual) because a member discovered a later (higher) one.  Then the Museum reported it had an even later(higher) one.  I couldn't remember whether it was this or something else.   anyone interested in flipping through the Newsletter to find out ?

Meanwhile, could the top line on page 303 (24th edition) be relevant here?

Thats where the problem lies... it appears that the ranges of Engraved and Lithographed in the 50** Crow-Bouey overlap each other.
What we know is that most Crow-Bouey 50..'s are were steel engraved and there was a small quantity of them that were lithographed (above note 50891440000) but what we don't know is what goes on between 5089144000-50983239998.... are they lithographed or are they steel engraved. The info. in charlton is incorrect? 

We all crave tidy, precise endpoints, but when sheets of notes of different varieties are fed indiscriminately into the numbering press, tidy endpoints just don't happen.  For a worst case example, recall the 1986 $2 signature changeovers in prefixes AUG-AUN.  Then there are the 1991 $20s with and without BPNs, all those pesky good overs, and of course the 1979 CBN $20s that are under discussion.
I believe the highest numbered engraved back and lowest numbered lithographed back $20 are in the Bank of Canada collection, numbered as reported in the catalogue.
As for notes numbered in between, some will have engraved backs and some lithographed.
