Wikipedia entry for banknote has it spelt as banknote. WordCheck.net has it spelt both ways: bank note and banknote. Although most online references have it as bank note.

I'd also go with spelled, but I'm an editor.
Spelt is a grain.

We are getting off topic here, but there's nothing wrong with
spelt
(or
spilt
or
burnt
). Even Fowler uses it - as an alternative to spelled, not the grain.
