Anyone ever find rare coins in change recently?

Just recently i found an 1898 10¢ in change, it was graded G-4 but still a pretty neat find.

Have you ever found a 2006 Magnetic and/or 2006P non-magnetic cent in change?
How about a 1991 quarter?  I have never had any luck finding these coins in change but im sure there are still some out there.

Funny you bring this up, my dad was telling me the other day that he had a box of 1991 quarters at one point. He kept them for a few months then traded them into the bank at face value (They were new quarters at the time, but he didn't collect so he had no idea what they were worth).

I have never found valuable coins in circulation. But when I was 9 we moved to a new house, and in the top shelf of a closet we found a pickle jar half full of silver quarters, from 1910-1968. Most were from the 1950s.

Being the coin collector of the family I was given custody of them. I took one of each year and sorted them into an album, which I still have. The rest (about $15 face value) I left in a stack in my bedroom. Over time I noticed the stack was getting smaller, and found that other members of my family were raiding it when they needed spare spending change.  I even found one of them in my mom's purse. They didn't know or care that it might have been valuable, money was money to them.

I just sold the last of it ($4.75 face value) last summer when silver prices were highest and got $100 for them.

When I was searching nickels, I found a few 1964 extra water lines variations... kinda nice.. traded them for some silver at my LCS.

Today at my local grocery store, I received a 1931 penny in my change.  Just when I decided to put a few pennies away for posterity, this one falls into my lap.   

It's in VG condition (IMO) with a couple of small green areas of tarnish.

When I was searching nickels, I found a few 1964 extra water lines variations... kinda nice.. traded them for some silver at my LCS.

Really lucky! Approx. how many nickels did you search through? In the last 20 years i must have looked at about 120 1964 nickels and never found one. The only one that i have that has the extra water lines feature came from a local coin dealer in which i purchased for about $20. The nickel grades EF-40.

LOL... don't get me started.. .. I bet I must have went through about 60,000 to 70,000 nickels. I was searching boxes for 1981 and older pure nickel nickels.... at the time there was 27 cents worth of nickel in each coin. Ended up with 3 extra water lines if memory serves me..

My brother, who lives in the thriving metropolis of Sudbury found a 1973 large bust quarter in his change. He also found a 1953 nickel with a - if I get this right - shoulder fold and near leaf? - anyway the expensive one in his change as well.

While not valuable, I did get a a couple of proof loonies in change. Mirrored background and frosted image and all that.

I'm wondering if collections are being stolen?

Edit:  It's 1953 Far leaf shoulder fold. (What do I know about coins???  :-D)

I was so super excited when I got a 1955 NSF One cent coin in change about 14 years.  I first couldn't believe it when I used a magnifying glass and saw the letter I between the denticles.  I then took it to Bill Merkley at London Coin Centre to verify it was "the" penny, and he confirmed it.   The condition is VF.   That was my best ever % return in my life.  Still have this coin today in my collection - and proud of it.

Yes quite possible. Many years back i found a 2000W $2 coin in change. Perhaps this was also from a stolen set.

found a nice red 1968 penny from change today...looks like it just came out of a roll!

I decided to get a few dollars worth of pennies out of the bank today and I find these...

A 1931 and a 1933 one cent piece!

It's amazing that these coins have survived so long in circulation...

These coins could have been put aside by someone long ago et kept many years until the person has passed away...The succession may have found the coins in a jar or something like and were unaware about any value of these coins.  "It's only the old coins"  and returned the lot (in rolls) to the bank..
