Have a few questions on some of serial numbers I've picked up....

1) BIF 8665533: Is this considered a "doubles note" even though the 8 is in the front?

2) BIF 8244824: Is this a repeater?

3) BIJ 0951996: Anyone know of someone born May 9th 1996 that would want this note?

The BIF8244824 is a repeater but probably (in my opinion) less desirable than a note that has a 4th digit different from the 3rd and the 5th.

I wasn't too conserned with "market desireablilty" ... more like since I've just been getting back into this hobbie and reading more about it, I have learned that many people like to collect notes for many reasons including and not with standing interesting serial numbers. I was just happy that I finally found something that was a bit different that the rest so to speak. (The equivalent to catching my first fish let's say)

On another note (bawhahah pardon the pun.. I'm sure that one get's old on here)

After a bit of asking around I did find someone that was born may 9th 1996. I traded them for a standard $20 and thought it was great. They get a bill that they may keep and just maybe start getting into this hobbie as well.
Now I'm not exactly sure how this hobbie is doing in terms of numbers but I feel that the more young people that get into the hobbie, the better the community.

What I'd like to know is; what are other ideas that some people have, or have even tried with some level of success to get kids into this hobbie?

I believe that there are certain personalities that are hard wired (like me) to collect "stuff". Different people find different things fascinating. So it is hard to get more people into these hobbies unless they have some hard wiring in them to start with.

Besides these days I see so many of us flashing smart phones at the cash that I think the only currency that we will have left is the ones in the hands of the members of this forum.

Good point. I agree that collecting seems to be a hard-wired thing. I am. Trying to get my kids I to collecting bills and they are somewhat interested.  :-[

So tonight's pick ups:
BSL 0580030 - BSL 0580098
BSL 0630000 - BSL 0630031

(My question is the 0580085 or the 0580058 desirable to any degree?)

Other pick ups
BIH 8579485  ... 85 at the start and finish... (book ends)

FIB 6636336 (I would've prefered 6636366... but I just liked the fact it's all 6's and 3's)

So tonight I picked up 2 bundles of $10's from the bank...

BFP 9646100-9646199 & BFP 9646500-9646599

And somewhere in the middle of those two bundles is a 9646469  :-[

Getting one or two bundles now and again from one bank is a bit challenging and sometimes they give me a hard time about it...

First question... does anyone have any strategies or methods to convince a bank to give 'em a brick?

Second question.. is there anyone interested in some sort of trade/swap for any of the 10's I have?

Another question I had regarding some of tonight's pick ups... what's the maximum number of digits to be considered a repeater
1 - AAAAAAA
2 - ABABABA
3- ABCABCA
4- ABCDABC  (I think this one is still recognized in the Charlton)

5 - ABCDEAB (At this point am I just drawing for straws here?)

I wanted to edit but I can't... I want to add something. If you don't want to break your head, use my tool to find out what is a special number.

Tell them you have weapons of mass destruction at your disposal :)

FS: No wonder you haven't found that elusive 2011 $5 HAE (LOL)!

But seriously- you have to realize that most banks and 99% of their employees don't get your hobby.  They're in the business of making money out of your money (PERIOD).

So if you have a mortgage or account (esp business) that's when they're more likely to "play ball" in your game to find some interesting notes.  The best thing you can do is find an employee who you feel has been great with you service wise- and butter her/him up, perhaps explain your hobby (what you're looking for), and try to be accommodating with them (don't ask for large quantities of any particular denomination and expect it unless you arrange ahead of time).  Try to go (& make your withdrawal) during less busy times too.  In the past I used to go to many different branches (to spread the "fun" of big cash withdrawals/deposits) until I had a manager sit down and discuss money laundering (& the red flag I created).  You might want to stick with the branch that knows you the best.

Those are my suggestions however there are many more here with way more experience than I have in brick searching, etc.  I just order the odd brick (a week in advance) or bundles (100's) from time to time and also make plenty of smaller withdrawals (which really hasn't been working for me!) But I think most here will tell you it takes persistence (to make a find) & thats the challenge...

Show up to the bank with a Tommy gun and a ski mask...  :)

No seriously, if you are a loyal customer, they are more likely to accommodate you.  Alternatively, you could go to the main branch and ask for uncirculated notes.  They will probably have them in stock at the business cash.

Hey guys... thank you so much for the tips.... I've got a couple banks here which I get the odd bundle or two, but I guess I'm starting to raise a red flag as I have been getting a few more questions lately.

Uncirculated $5 and $10 notes are now available at the business desk of the main branch of RBC (220 Portgage) in Winnipeg.  Nothing exciting.  The $10s - BFP - are nice.  The $5s - HPZ - have what appears to be a depression caused by a counting machine.  I am still looking for the M/C $5s.
