They do this in Japan and I had no problem with it...I knew exactly how much things would cost.

I fully support this idea. Even in the Eurozone it works like that. What you see is what you pay.

It appears if this person who deposited these coins was a metal detectorist because some of the coins were FILTHY.  They are so corroded that they are barely legible.

It could be dedication or maybe I need to get a life... 

It's just that when I get into something, I go at it on all cylinders for awhile...With the penny, I'm under a deadline of sorts to obtain stock (although I may be able to get more from a sympathetic teller or two)   

Thanks for the compliment...I've been obsessed with coins and paper money ever since I found my first $1 asterisk note in change at the Loblaws on Lakeshore and Leslie in 1985.  As a 7 year old, I had a choice:  Buy candy or keep the bill...I kept   FA3517745.  Still have it too...It was the note that started it all...It was tops in the Charlton guide for a year until a higher one was found. 

I've been driving my friends and family crazy about collecting money for 27 years and I'm not slowing down now...I have them well trained to look for things!

2 x 10 cents! ...It pays to roll search sometimes!  This is the second batch in a row where I've come out ahead.  In total, I've recovered 73 cents in extra cash from the rolls.  Profit from the lazyness of others...

Doesn't always work that way. I have had quarters as fillers in loonie rolls. Normally in standard wrapping you can make out if there are 25 coins in one roll by looking at the folds. But how the heck do you make out if it is filled with a few quarters unless you open it and see it.

So it works both ways.

Nothing really special from this box.  I guess I was spoiled in the past.  I now have full rolls of 1964, 67, 68 and 69 from searching.

The tellers I know said after Monday, customers will start bringing in rolled pennies and I suspect they will have more interesting finds as people empty out grandma's penny jar.  I really hope to find more examples of George V pennies.  I have found only 5 of them since I started looking through rolls...

I suppose you're right Rupiah...With pennies, the risk is about as low as you could expect.  All in all, if I discounted all of the foreign coins I have found in the roll searches, including American pennies, I would be short 6-7 dollars. 

When you're dealing with higher value coins, the discovery of slugs, other denominations or demonetized coins in the rolls really eats away at your budget.

That's why I like receiving customer wrapped rolls in plastic coin rolls!

At one bank branch they said that they will be accepting unrolled pennies in some sort of penny bags. They said these bags can hold $25 worth of pennies.

Interesting how it all ends.

I managed to score 2 boxes of pennies from my bank today plus another $10 worth in loose rolls.

Today my school was doing a penny drive for charity and I collected from my classes.

In about $12 worth from the students, I found:

1 x 2 pfennig from Germany 1995

This now brings my King George V finds from the wild up another notch...I'm also building a nice world copper collection on the side.  What's next?

And to celebrate it all google is honoring the penny. Try google.ca. Better grab the penny fast because it is an error. It has 2013 on it.

1 x 75 RED  (This is a really nice coin IMO.  The copper is still bright but has mellowed ever so slightly with age...I can't really describe it.)

This is an interesting time for coin roll hunting.  There are treasures waiting to be found in each roll if you look hard enough.  People will be disposing of their pennies and collectors can reap the rewards! 

Moderators...Maybe it would be appropriate to split this thread into "Coin Roll Hunting" from the original heading since I've basically monopolized the thread with my obsession with pennies

Dean your posts piqued my interest... prior to Feb. 4th I managed to pick up 5 boxes...

I can say the whole searching through each roll is kinda fun.  I certainly can say I'm not exactly getting the same luck as you.

I've picked out a few from the 60's and 70's perhaps a dozen from the 50's but only one from 1940.

I did find 2 wheat pennies which was kind of cool.

You mentioned the term "RED" ... you know of any website that could explain this feature well?

I've seen on some auction sites that talk about red, or toning.. but aside from "tarnish" or "petina" I really think this is something I'd like to learn more about but have no idea of how.

Thanks for getting me hooked... the whole time I'm doing this.... I've been thinking that I would like to do quarters next.
