it has to be worth at least 1.25 cents!!!

That's 25% return on face value  ::)

Wonder what paper money would say if it could talk?

Nice pictures. What camera/lens/settings do you use for these close-ups?

I recently found some die chips on new loonies and would like to photograph them.

I used a Nikon coolpics point and shoot.  Under a lamp, using 400ISO and macro with no flash.  It's tricky to get the camera to focus so it took several tries.

Here are the finds from the second box from yesterday.

1 x 40
1 x 48
1 x 57
2 x 61
1 x 62
7 x 63 (1 red)
8 x 64
4 x 65
6 x 66
7 x 67
11 x 68 (1 red)
9 x 69

UK
1 x 1986 penny
1 x 2000 penny

Foreign
???  1996.  Can anyone help me out with this coin?  My guess is it's from the former Soviet Union somewhere.

Good guess, the coin is from Tajikistan (25 diram).

Oops...The coin from Tajikstan was a 2006 as you can clearly see from my photo...Not 1996.

I think I was lucky early last  year, and didn't realize it at the time. I had gotten a (old style) 2012 loonie and saved it because it was the first 2012 coin I had seen. At the time, I had no idea the new design was in the works.
I don't think I've ever seen a 2012 old style loonie since then.

Has you tried one of those steam cleaners with a nozzle to clean coins?
Less aggressive than an eraser in a drill!!
In the commercials, the dirt and crud seems to "melt" off of whatever they are demonstrating it on!

I'd like to know how it works if you try it b4 I do.

Personally, I would always advise against any type of coin cleaning. A cleaned coin will have lost most, if not all, of any numismatic premium value. I know from my days when I used to be an avid coin collector, that almost without exception, collectors will avoid cleaned, whizzed, dipped, any sort of cleaned or treated coin. To me, it's roughly the numismatic equivalent of a pressed note.
However, of course, if a collection is simply for the beauty of it, as opposed to accumulating numismatic value, clean away!
