Today I received from my bank four 2002 golden jubilee 50 cent pieces and a Quebec city toonie.

I went through $40 of nickels today and found the following pieces:

1 x 2012 Trinidad & Tobago 25 cent piece

1 x 1964

6 x 1965-69
24 x 1970-79
14 x 1980-81
56 x 1982-89
24 x 1990-99

Commemoratives:

5 x 2005

Notable/scarce:
1 x 1991 (lustrous)

I can't remember when I last found a 1991 coin in change... 
However, WHERE are all of the George VI and George V nickels hiding out there?  People seem to be finding them from boxes, but not me...at least not yet...

Found one today. Just noticed that they used the same lucky loon from 2012 but instead they are dated 2014.

It seems that the RCM is getting lazy...You'd think they would revise the design...

I picked up $14 worth of nickels today an I was pleasantly surprised by the finds in so few rolls...

I got 3 rolls of US nickels dating from the 1960s-early 2000s.  There was not a single "forward facing" Jefferson in the lot! 

Within these 3 rolls, I managed to pull out the following noteworthy coins:

1954, 1956 and 1943

Here are specific shots of the 1943 piece.  It is different because it has a large "S" above Montecello...

Also in this batch, I found my first 2000P nickel.  I heard that they are rare...

It's amazing what you find sometimes!  This was after the teller actually took back a few rolls that she was going to sell me because they did not have enough change in the till!

Here are specific shots of the 1943 piece.  It is different because it has a large "S" above Montecello...

  That 1943 American nickel is made of 35% silver.  That is also why the mint mark is above Monticello.  They made them from 1942-45 so that they could use the nickel metal for the war effort, so instead made them with silver.  Awesome find! 

Also in this batch, I found my first 2000P nickel.  I heard that they are rare...

The 2000P had a quantity minted of only 4,899,000. It is the nickel with the lowest mintage since 1951.

This coin is now the second one I've found in 2 weeks.  It is still quite lustrous!

I've gone through thousands of dollars of quarters over the last few months.  I wrote a short article describing the fun I had with the first 50,000 coins in the February Waterloo Coin Society Newsletter.  Look for the article in an upcoming issue of the Ontario Numismatist as well.

I even have 50 rolls of quarters and 10 rolls of toonies waiting for me to hunt through tonight.
