Polymer $5 and $10 to be issued simultaneously

This little snippet from the end of this CBC article is the first indication I have seen of a $5 and $10 release time frame.

The Bank of Canada said it is planning to release the new $5 and $10 bills at the same time, tentatively scheduled for late 2013.

Not at all surprised they're being launched together.  I would have been surprised otherwise.

"Late 2013" is anytime from September-on.

I'm guessing the remaining new bills will probably be released in November, on the anniversary of Canadarm.  But I could be dead wrong.

I'd say, unlike the $20, seeing there are so few $10's in circulation, I have a feeling they will immediately recall any existing Journey and pre-Journey $10's aggressively, seeing there may be no backlog of prefixes - unless there's a "Printed in 2012" series for the $10's being issued in the coming months or weeks.  The $5's will probably have some sort of a backlog when the Polymer version officially gets released.

We were travelling in Ottawa this summer and The Bank of Canada building had a huge $20 bill (several stories high) poster on it promoting the new bill. Nw that they have launched the $20 I am wondering if there is a $10 or $5 there.
Does anyone know?

  My guess would be "not yet" because unless I've missed the news, the new designs for the $5 and $10 have not yet been announced.

That's true.  Well, it's been long enough, I guess.

I suspect the $5 and $10 will be recalled, too.  The $10 won't take long.  The $5 will take longer.

Yes.  $2's had EGG.  I have at least one.  Will make a HAM and EGG montage if the $5 ever materializes.

Technically, you are right.  If you're referring to the current volumes of $10 bills in circulation as opposed to other bills, that is.

Of course, based on what I read, there is still many, many months to go before the new $10 bill is being released.  There may still be a chance that one final print year of $10 bills (2011 or 2012) with the new M/C signature combo may see the light of day like the M/C Journey $50's in its final months (where one full run prefix of AHP and two partial-run prefixes of AHN and AHR were issued).  $10 bills, like the $50 and $100 bills, are not spent as abundantly as $5's and $20's, and in recent years there was a span of 3 years between print years (2006 to 2009 for the $100, and 2008 to 2011 for the $50).  There still may be a chance that FEW may appear on the last of the Journey $10's, we'll just have to wait and find out.

This may mean the new Polymer $10's may start somewhere in the FT* range.  We'll have to wait and see.

I agree 100% with your statement.  The $10 sees the fewest number of bills in circulation, so the $10's should be an easy bill to replace, possibly the easiest of them all.  Depending on the province, some larger provinces will likely have theirs replaced within up to a year. and the smaller provinces (especially those in Atlantic Canada) will likely have theirs replaced within 3 months or so.

Well, I do my part to keep the $10 alive by requesting them when I withdraw cash.  I find them convenient for small purchases. 

I do notice that when receiving change at the store, I will usually get 2 fives instead of one ten even though the tens are in the drawer.  I wonder why the cashiers tend to do this?
