Here is a 2013 loonie with what looks like a die chip error on the D of the Canada.

Does someone have experience to confirm what it is? I found that in change when I noticed something at the D with a naked eye. Further examination with a magnifier showed the extra metal at inside bottom of the D.

Do these types of coins have value beyond face?

There are some people that collect die chips but they wouldn't pay much, if any, of a premium for this coin.

Thank you for your insight.

Would you know why Charlton lists some die chip errors for toonies/loonies and not others? For instance the 67th edition lists 1996, and 2000 for toonies and none for loonies.

Can one assume that the ones listed are rare and therefore worth mentioning? Any insight would be helpful.

Are there grading agencies that will include die chip errors in their grading?

Thx

Hi Rupiah,

I would suggest the following website primarily full of knowledgable coin collectors.

http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/default.asp?CAT_ID=26
Then click Canadian varieties and error coins.

You will definitely get response on your $1 error coin.  You have a nice error coin.  Could be a filled die.

  Smile from your heart.  ;D

Nice find... I see the 2013's are starting to circulate now. I have not seen any 2013 coins as of yet.

oops - Until your post I did  not realize my error. The coin I posted was 2012. My apologies for any inconvenience.

I have  not seen any 2013's yet either.
