Is it possible to track the printed in and/or release year of a note based on its prefix? e.h. 1954 $1 U/Y? I know that was that last CBN prefix for the 1954 $1 but when was it released?

Thats a really good question. U/Y was with Beattie-Rasminsky so it was released for circulation after 1961. My guess would be around 1970 when it went into circulation.

Yeah, sometime between 1961 and 1971 is all we have to go by. It would be nice if the Charlton guide could include the issue year for each prefix, but it sounds like that information isn't actually known.

Back in those days we did not have the technology to track notes. Someone must have the info on each and every note printed and circulate and that info should be available through the bank of canada.
