This is currently considered a rare note, one that many collectors are searching for. Range confirmed by bank of canada is 0000000-3619999. So far only a handfull of these notes have been reported and all within the 3M range. You have a nice find and you should hang onto that note. Personally i still think though this note is not as rare as it appears to be. I think that there are more out there and that people are hanging onto them. We will see as time goes on. But i have yet to find one myself and would love to have one as its the ONLY Macklem-Carney $5 note for that series in circulation.

Do you know of there are any for sale?

Wonder what paper money would say if it could talk?

None. One showed up once on e-bay and sold for around $200 if i remember correctly. Give it time. I expect them to start showing up gradually on the market.

There are now 27 M/C HBG notes in the SNDB.

Hi Claude,

I think many of us have searched thousands of polymer $5.00 notes and have failed to find a M/C signature combo (between 3.2 to 3.400,000 note).

Mmars is the first to propose many good reasons why the M/C signature combo may be rare in another thread on the Polymer Signature change-over:

Hope this helps,

Hey Claude I found the "other" M-C HBG from Quebec, there are 28 in the SNDB of which TWO came from QC about a year apart. Now I'm inspired to order another brick...watch out tellers at RBC I'm gonna make you "work for nothing" again!

This is a really nice note! Out of the 28 notes recorded in the SNDB it may easily have the highest grade. Now after a year of circulation M/C HBG fives in this condition are less and less likely to be found.

After 6 months of searching through LOTS of fives I am finally giving up. There appear to be no M/C HBG notes here in Toronto. I did buy a VF-EF note from another forum member back in the summer.

I'm not so sure there are none left out there: if a few thousand were shipped and only 28 have been pulled (plus maybe a few found but not in the SNDB) I think the odds of finding one are the same now as they were a year ago. I have TWO bricks coming in next week, will post my findings!

Also I think 6 of the 28 were found in south western ON so the odds may be higher in your area.

Don't give up...I found one from a bundle of fives I picked up from a Scotiabank in downtown Toronto in October.  You never know when you'll find one...It's part of the thrill of hunting!

I have posted 3 on there from the Cambridge area and just got one a about week or so ago.  All have been very heavily circulated.  Finding one in EF or better is even more of a challenge.
