Here are images showing the partial back of two $10 BIRD Series Notes.

The first one with Back Position Number-68 shows the BPN 68 which is mostly hidden behind the water lines

The second one shows the BPN 88 which is fully visible. The second one is the most common type found.

The background litho which has the same tint as the BPN is the same in the two notes. As can be seen in the image there does not appear to be a registration issue between the water lines and the background litho.

So if the BPN was printed from the same plate as the background litho then it would be my sense that this would not be a registration issue and therefore point to it being a variant as a result of something inherent in the plate as opposed to a result of misalignment in the printing press.

Any thoughts?

Wonder what paper money would say if it could talk?
