April 16th finds and mail call.

Yesterday, I managed to finish searching the last batch of coins and I was pleasantly surprised.

Highlights include two 5 pence coins from the UK, some 1968 and 1969 dated dimes, two colour 2021 dimes,
$5.85 in US coins, and best of all, two more silver dimes, dated 1962 and 1965!

I stopped by the bank today and I got $150 more in dime rolls…Hopefully there are more surprises in these rolls!

I also managed to obtain seven US $2s and a vintage $1.

In my mail today, I received three 1954 $5s I bought specifically for the messages written on them.  More on these notes in my other thread.

Enjoy!

April 20th finds:
Easter Sunday coin hunt!

I managed to obtain $100 in dime rolls and $50 in quarters from the bank yesterday.
The quarter rolls yielded a coin from the United Arab Emirates, a ten pence piece from the UK, a 25 cent piece from Barbados, a 1968 nickel alloy quarter and some 1992 commemorative quarters.

The dime rolls were more productive.
They yielded $3.80 in US coins, a 5 pence coin from the UK, several 1968 nickel alloy dimes, some 1969 small date dimes, and some elusive dates like 1983 and 2023.

Best of all, there was one 1967 silver dime hiding in one of the rolls!

Enjoy!

April 27th finds and coin hunt.

I managed to get a significant haul from one of my banks today including:

A pile of journey $10s and a $50
Two bags of pennies

I figured that I should also buy some rolled coins so I picked up some dimes and quarters.

The results of the hunt are in the next post.

Enjoy!

April 27th coin hunting results:

This small load of rolled coins left me pleasantly surprised.
I hunted the quarters first and I was upset that 7 of the rolls was short by one coin.  (Short rolls are becoming more frequent in Toronto).
Unfortunately, this is the price you pay for coin roll hunting.  I’ve been ripped off more times than I can count.

Discouraged after losing $1.75, I carried on…
The last quarter roll was thankfully full with $10 in coins and best of all, one of the quarters was a silver 1967 bobcat.
I also found some 1992 provincials, a US quarter, a Barbados 25 cent coin and a colour poppy quarter in nice shape.

The dimes were productive as well.  I found:
Five 1968 nickel alloy dimes
And $4.80 worth of US dimes, most of which came out of one single roll.

So, after everything, I managed to walk away from this hunt with a profit!
You can’t complain if you find free silver and US coins! (But it still sucks to be short $1.75…🙁)
Enjoy!

May 6th coin hunt.
Paper money has been hard to come by lately so I have been gathering circulated coin rolls when I can.
I managed to get $250 worth of dimes and quarters and there were some treasures!
Of course, the white wrapped rolls contained nothing.  ☹️

Highlights include:
$2.70 in US change
A Barbados dime, a UK 5 pence coin 1990,1991,1978 in nicer shape, a colour 2021, some 1968 nickel alloy dimes and best of all, two silver dimes, 1953 and 1963!. The 1963 dime has nice toning too…

Enjoy!

May 7th coin hunt:
My oldest find…ever.

Today I went back to the same bank where I got the rolled coins that yielded 2 silver dimes.  I bought all of their remaining customer wrapped dime rolls totalling $95 and the teller added in one machine wrapped roll to round the total up to $100.

As expected, the machine wrapped roll contained brand new 2024 dimes and there were a few rolls that were short.

I accept short rolls as part of coin roll hunting but the finds from these rolls more than made up for the shortage!

Highlights include:
Two 5 pence coins from the UK
7 1968 nickel alloy dimes
8 US dimes
One really nice 1978 dime
And best of all…two silvers: a 1968 50% dime and the oldest circulation coin I have ever found in the wild…a 1910 sterling silver dime nearly worn flat.

People often ask me why I do this…The rewards speak for themselves!

Enjoy,
Dean
