Some more finds from my main branch haul today…

These 1979 $5s would have been consigned to the shredder, but I saved them because two of them have the infamous pink Royal Bank of Canada cancellation stamp from the 1980s-1990s over them.  I’m having trouble reading the domicile of the stamps, but one note clearly spent a lot of time going in and out of the banks in Delta and Surrey, BC!  🤣


The second note has a clear cool full date stamp of 05 16 1993 on the back. The stamp has to be 1993 because the note is signed Crow/Bouey and this signature combo was around from 1984-1986 on the 1979 issue $5s. I’m having trouble reading the branch address though.

The third note is not really special…somebody just used it as scratch paper to do some addition!  🤣

Any help in deciphering these stamps would be greatly appreciated!

March 23rd:  A candidate for “worst condition note”.

I got this note in my haul today.  The more I looked at it, the more I thought about posting something about it, so here are my thoughts:

This note has lived a rough life and it looks as if it was framed at some point in its life or maybe put in the window.  It’s all faded on the front but it is a genuine note because somebody removed a planchette.

March 31st mail call!

I received 3 notes today:

A 1954 $50 with the name Phillip V written in cursive on the top margin.  This note also has a stamp vertically placed on the back that reads “SACO B……… OLD ORCHARD”. I can’t make out what the other part says.

A 1967 $1 note, L/O prefix with the initials J.K. 1967 written in cursive on the left margin.

And…

A 1971 $10 VG prefix with the pink Royal Bank stamp of death from the 1980s.
I think the domicile says Ottawa Ontario but I’m not sure of the exact branch…

April 3rd:
Google is your best friend...

I found this $20 note today with a partial teller stamp.
Normally, I'd throw it back into circulation because the stamp is incomplete however, there was a legible postal code and a partial address

--AY East
L6Z 1Y5

and a partial transit number --1172-004 on the bottom right of the stamp.

On the top left, there are the digits 21--
and part of a name TH...

I put the Postal Code into Google and it came up with the following information:

The Toronto Dominion Bank
150 Sandalwood Parkway East
Brampton Ontario
L6Z 1Y5

The transit number of this branch just happens to be 21172-004.

Pretty neat, eh?

April 5th mail call part 1:
I bought this 1923 shinplaster because somebody wrote the date “11/5/33” on the back of it.

I wonder what this particular date meant to the person who wrote it?

April 5th mail call, part 2:

Thank you to CPMF member “lamb” for these three 1971 $10s from the FD— series.
They are beautiful!

I am looking closely at the size of the “D”s in the second position in the prefix…is there a “big/little” variation here?

Interestingly, the FDA $10 that “lamb” sent to me is very close in number to the FDA $10 I found in circulation from the bank.

Take a look at those “D”s…

Also here is a photo comparing the notes I have from the FD— series of $10s.

April 24th 2023 I found some handwritten names on a 1954 $1 in my finds today…

On the top front margin is “Ray Philpott”
And on the back is Craig Bomes Nov. 6, 81”

It’s nice to know that 1954 dated notes were still circulating in the early ‘80s, but they must have been few and far between by that time.

April 27th Main Branch defaced notes part 1:

I got a bunch of banknotes with teller stamps and writing on them today.

A 1969 $20 with a partial teller stamp from the Royal Bank of Canada…no other info.  I suspect that the bank branch was in Quebec because the French version of the name is on top of the English name.

A 1986 $2 with the name “Priya” (I think…) on the front in red pen ink.

April 27th Main Branch defaced notes, part 2:

I got some 1979 $20s in this haul with the “pink band of death” from the 1980s.

Note #1 has what I think is a stamp from the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Peterborough Ont?

Note #2 is much clearer…The Royal Bank of Canada Albert & Hazel Br.  Waterloo Ont.  with a date of 06 08 1982!
The transit number on note #2 is clearly visible…07712-003.  This transit number now belongs to an RBC branch located at 585 Weber St. N. in Waterloo.  They must have moved locations since 1982!

Note #3 is also clear…The Toronto Dominion Bank. Hopedale Mall, Oakville Ont. Transit number 21103-004 and a partially readable date of (198?)8 10 27.

Note #4 is also clearly legible…Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce 13B Yorkdale Shopping Centre Toronto Ontario    transit number 03712 010 and a date of 04 05 82 (April 5th 1982 or May 4th 1982).

I think notes like this are great.  So much history in a teller stamp!

Here is a note with a faint "Bobby Hull" signature. It came from a gentleman that said he got it signed when he met Bobby Hull after a Winnipeg Jets game in the mid 1970s.

Guelph coin show pickups:

I went to Guelph last weekend and picked up some interesting notes:

A 1954 note with serial number 20…to match the journey $10 with #20 that I found at the bank a couple of weeks ago.  😀

A bulk lot of 1937 $1s with writing on them:
The first note has June 26 1946 .89 written on it in fountain ink.  Unfortunately, somebody put plastic tape on the short edges…Why would somebody do that?? 😡. The note has also been trimmed.

The second note is defaced with so much writing…It is also from 1946…
Some legible bits include:
“Vancouver Canada”. “USA Army” “Love your picture”. “Washington” Vancouver…”

And on the back…more messages…. “My love…”

The 3rd note: “Eddie….”  “Paul J. Ross”  “Hubert G. Stafford” “Edgar J. W….”

And three “lucky wallet notes” with lots of wear, indicative of being carried around for a very long time.
