Vertical $10: Is there a natural vertical seam at bottom of security strip?

Hello all,
I got a new jewelers loop and with it I can see a horizontal line (WHEN VERTICAL) on the bottom edge of the security strip on either the front or back.  Does anyone know if this may be a natural seam?  I'm seeing it on various prefixes.  Can't take photos under magnification.

I think I see what you mean. Interesting.

I see it on one of mine but not the other. I have no idea what it is. Here's a pic:
