Hi All, (2 posts to upload all photos)
I’ve ventured a little further afield than our boarders and picked up these francs from a couple of tiny French islands off our east coast. Categorized as “French Colonial”. All issued by ‘Caisse Centrale de la France d’outre-Mer’ for the French territory islands St. Pierre et Miquelon. All are considered ‘no date’ but I’ve narrowed some down to year. All are over prints for location, and the 1000, 500, 100, and 50 Franc notes are over prints for denomination also, and the 50 Franc note has an over strike of another island called Reunion. All show evidence of curling from being stored rolled up, and the three over size notes may have been pressed, so although clean and crisp, there are waves in the thin paper that is not similar to our Canadian paper. Some edges are ‘wavy’ and a couple have teeny dog-ears. A couple have staple holes which has something to do with the issue that I haven’t quite explored yet. I had to MacGyver note holders for the over-size notes so there is some overlap on them in the photos.
1964 1000 Francs = 20 Nouveau Francs
1964 500 Francs = 10 Nouveau Francs
1963 100 Francs = 2 Nouveau Francs
1960 50 Francs = 1 Nouveau Franc w (Over strike of ‘LA REUNION’)
1950-1960 20 Francs
1950-1960 10 Francs x 2 notes
1950-1960 5 Francs x 2 notes
I don’t have a Pick Catalogue so have used AI for all my research so far, so it could be incorrect. If anyone knows of a site to research World Notes or has any info on Pick numbers with variation letters, it would be appreciated. I don’t trust AI for this.
Cheers, Breanna
