Well, another serial number prefix spelling out a name may very well be released soon - BEN, on our Journey $10's, is short for the man on America's C-Note!

Other names which have been released on our Canadian banknotes include:

1973 $1:  AB (Absolom), AL (Alan, Albert, etc), ALF (Alfred), AMY, BAS or BAZ
1974 $2: ABE (Abraham)
1986 $2: ARN, ART (Arthur), AUB (Aubrey), AUD (Audrey), BUN (nickname for Bernadette?)
1972 $5: CY (short for Cyril?)
1986 $5: ENA, ANA, ANI, ANN
2002 $5: none as yet
1989 $10: ADA, BEA (short for Beatrice)
2001 $10: BEN (soon to be released)
1969 $20: ED (Edward), EL (short for Eleanor or Ellie), WM (abbreviation for William)
1991 $20: EVA, EVE, AVA
1975 $50: none
1988 $50: none
1975 $100: AJA
1988 $100: none
2004 $100: none as yet

If you think of any names that I have forgotten, please let me know on the forum.

By the way, after we see BEN, we might just see BEV (Beverley) in the very near future!

Later, Jonathan

Or some body parts, such as:

EAR ($1 1973)
ABS ($2 1974)
ARM ($2 1986)
EYE ($20 1991)

By the way, eyevet, when you were listing animal names, you forgot BUG (Birds $2), but I don't know if it is a real animal name or not.

Please let me know if it is or not.  Also, please let me know of any body parts that I have not mentioned.

Thanks, Jonathan

Another animal name which may be released someday may be HOG (another kind of pig) on a future Journey $5 note!

I'm fine with adding BUG to the list... we make our own rules here!!! ;D

Now if they every come out with prefix ASS we could add that to the animal list and the body parts list!!!

I've been studying communications in school lately, and I learned the following - place names?  Like...

1974 $2: BC (British Columbia)
1973 $1: AB (Alberta)
1973 $1: MB (Manitoba)
1973 $1: NB (New Brunswick)
1973 $1: NF NL (Newfoundland & Labrador - my home province!  ;D )
1973 $1: NS (Nova Scotia)
1973 $1: NT (Northwest Territories or Nunavut?)
1973 $1: ON (Ontario)
1972 $5: SK (Saskatchewan)
Never issued: PE, QC, and YT

And, flashing back to Grammar class, how about conjunctions, like...

1986 $5: AND
1986 $2: BUT
1973 $1: OR
Never issued (yet): NOR

...and prepositions, such as...

1973 $1: IN
1974 $2: BY
1973 $1: ON
1973 $1: OF
1986 $5: FOR

Whew!  The possibilities are endless!

Well, I must get back to my studies now before I go to BED (that's a 1989 $10 prefix, by the way ;D)!

Jonathan, out!  :D
