Somewhere along the way I heard that radars with combinations of 7's and 8's ( 7778777 or 8887888 ) are the most sought after. Is it true and, if so, why.

Those are two didgit radars and yes, they are the SECOND most sought after,,,the first of course is a solid radar 7777777; the numbers you quoted have no special significance (to me anyway) other than the fact they are 2 didgit..

To a "true" radar collector...0001000 would have much more meaning..being the first radar of a series..

some collectors attach special significance to number sequences...personally...my "best" radar is

2914192...the sequence "291" is my old military occupation code..and by sheer coincedence..."4" (to me represents 1994 - the year I retired)

BTW: this note, grades about VF...but will always be priceless to me...
