In my phone discussions with Gilles this afternoon he mentioned that he has found HPA inserts in HPA bricks (4M).

He said he is noticing that the $5 inserts are now appearing as the same prefix or one prefix previous to the brick they are found in.  This seems to make sense since polarbear found HOZ inserts in HOZ bricks, I found HOZ inserts in HPA bricks and now Gilles has found HPA inserts in HPA bricks.

Is this a new trend we are seeing ?

I remember finding HOH inserts in HOH regular bricks. I if I recall properly the HOH notes were in the 7 Million range and the inserts were of course in the 9 Million range.

I would say this is a trend due to the companies going public. It costs less to have less inventory. If you use up all the inserts and only set aside enough to fulfill a projected short term need, then you can have lower "dead stock" (yet to be issued replacement notes).

I notice this post mentions HPA inserts in the same breath as saying 4M
Are the inserts in the 4M range or is that where the inserts were found
I got a pile of HPA at the bank today and there are three ranges

4702990-999
4700456-459
4711750-775

Several of the notes have letters and numbers where it appears insufficient ink has been used

watch out! Insert finding i've noticed is getting very tricky these days as the bank seems to be mixing up bricks of notes. I think only HPA 5.96-5.98M is the only confirmed range at present.

I verified again with Gilles Pomerleau that the only confirmed insert range for HPA is (5.960M - 5.980M).

The HPA inserts appear to be quite scarce as Gilles has only found six (6) in total and all as single insert notes (no runs).

With the new notes appearing in just over a week, the HPA insert could turn out to be an expensive note in the future.

BTW....the inserts were found in HPA bricks in the (4M range).

After searching close to 25 bricks (25,000 notes) of HPA prefix notes I finally found a single 2005 $5 Jenkins-Dodge, HPA (5.960M - 5.980M) insert.

This $5 insert could be as scarce as the 2004 $5 Jenkins-Dodge, HOG (9.920M - 9.940M).

After going through many bricks of $5 HPA notes, I was fortunate enough to find a single HPA $5 Insert Note - HPA5970668.  This note was found within the HPA6590000-999 brick.   The insert note replaced HPA6590944 and was found in that exact spot where the missing note was located.   The FP#23, BP#40 is the same on both the insert note as well as the regular issue note.   This insert note is certainly difficult to find.  Seems that the Canadian Bank Note Company really stepped up and improved the quality control.

  Smile from your heart.  ;D

It is generally believed that CBN pre-security $5 Journety notes were printed sometime ago and were sitting in BoC
warehouses waiting distribution.  Gilles believes that both the HOZ and HPA prefixes were printed just prior to CBN
being sold once again, this time to an American Company.  It would have been in CBN's best interest to show any
prospective new buyers that quality control was high and spoilage at a minimum.  This could explain why the HPA
inserts have been so scarce and only found as singles.
