can a ladder note be 5432109?

Well in essence it is a descending ladder note but it would not be considered a ladder note by the Charlton. To be a 'true' ladder note it could only have a zero in the serial number either as the first or last digit of the serial. Definitely a neat note though.

I would treat it like a ladder although it is again not strictly a ladder. It has the same probability of showing up as a true ladder because once the first digit is known, all other digits are set just like a true descending ladder, so technically it should be valued as such, assuming rarity determines price. Of course a true ladder is more appealing but I would consider this note no less appealing than a 8765432 descending ladder. Just my thoughts as a collector.

in a sense it is a ladder but I would not put as much of a premium as a true ladder note but it probably fetch a maybe 50 % premium then a regular note

Just to be different but not to be a wise guy... I would have to disagree and say this is not a ladder note becuase of the serial numbers ending in 09... i think if it were 5432101 then I would consider it a descending / ascedning ladder.

If it were 3210987 double half descending number I can see that getting almost popular as the repeaters.

On that same vein, a 5432101 could be descending ladder when you take a black pen and write your own ink error betweem the 0 and the last 1 and voila! 543210-1 becomes a descending ladder.   Negative numbers, a whole new field of errors!

If you image these numbers on a combination lock with 0 to 9 on the reels (modular arithmatic, modulo 10), it is a ladder. That is why I would consider it a ladder of sorts

I think of zeros in serial numbers to be like aces in poker.  They are either high or low, not both.  So 6789012 cannot be a ladder any more than QKA23 can be a straight flush.
