If you have a hard time seeing the missing number it is O/A 8492821

I can't truly comment on the authenticity of this notes without examining it in person or seeing a high
resolution scan of the banknote.

I can however use Photoshop to blowup the existing eBay image.  By doing so it appears that you can
see remnants of a serial number that has been removed.

If you look at the image below from the left serial number position you can barely make out what looks
like a number "5" and a number "7".

I agree, I have seen this note on ebay and believe that some kind of process was used to wash away the serial numbers.

One thing that sticks out is that the note seams much lighter where the serial numbers should have been.

As Canada Banknotes mentioned there also seams to be the "ghost" of numbers.

Am I missing something here ? 

It is obvious that this note has had the serial numbers removed but it ends up selling for CDN $218.49
with three bidders sniping it at the end.

No wonder the "Gold Flag" sellers did so well.

As the famed American showman P.T. Barnum once said "There's a sucker born every minute".

I guess this note is only worth half the price that the 1937 $1 Osbourne realized since only half the serial
numbers are missing.

Nice part about this note is that it is UNC..............and AUTHENTIC

 Yes it is hard to feel sorry for some bidders when they don't even seem to look at what they are buying. I don't know why something like this can be sold but I guess it's like mis-cut errors hand cut from sheets just a lack of knowledge that's the only reason I can see.

 It's a shame that I'm losing another ebay seller that I will never buy from but it's twice as regretable that this was a forum member that I'll never buy from.

 Here is my missing serial number both sides note in AU conidition from mis-handling, you can tell it's authentic because it still has a shine on the paper.

I think I will try to soak all my notes in bleach lay them in the sun and hopefully get rid of all those vibrate colors.

Some people collect like newly annointed Jonestown converts rushing towards a chunk of Guyana swampland with laced coolaid in hand.  Blind faith is a very intoxicating stimulant. Its sad how once one commits himself to a certain degree of folly, it becomes so hard to turn back (towards true enlightenment).

This note, the gold flags, manufactured cut out of register errors, etc, illustrate how few check the authenticity of a seller's claims.  Such unscrupulous sellers are taking advantage of the bargain hunter's flea market mentality (hoping to find a cheap treasure). 

It also illustrates how information is power (enlightenment takes work).  Thank goodness there's sites like CPMF. Too bad more collectors don't tune in!

 This note  (item # 300111625205) ended at $111.50 U.S. and now the same seller has another for sale and with practice he seems to be getting better at removing numbers. Here is a scan of his lastest "error".

It is obvious from the back of the note that it was exposed to some kind of solvent.  Look at how the green
ink has faded in several areas of the design on the reverse (item # 300113494792).

This note will probably sell for $100+ based on recent auctions of missing serial number error notes.

If you check this eBay seller's other auctions you will notice that he is also selling US paper money errors
with insufficient ink, missing print and ink smear errors.  These types of errors can all be reproduced on
regular issue notes by a resouceful con man.

This note must have been returned and sold by the same seller tonight and the second highest bidder from last time won it tonight. It sold tonight not listed as an error for what it's worth $.99 but the buyer must really think he got a deal because last time he bid $109.00 and lost.
  Last time it was auction # 300111625205 and tonights auction was # 300144390037

 You can tell it is the same note as above with the missing serial numbers and missing back because it has the same folds.Here is a pic for comparison.
