Hello fellow collectors,

There is a $10 BEK note on eBay being offered by a professional coin/papermoney auction house on eBay.  Now, I am wondering what is so special about this note, as they have the starting bid at $180 Canadian + taxes + buyer's premium, etc.   It's description as stated is, "Bank of Canada, $10.00 note 2001, graded Gem UNC-65, BC-63c, signature Knight Dodge, serial BEK1842122. This is the regular note not the insert."

Is there something that I am missing?  Isn't the value listed in the recent Charlton catalogue worth only $35 in GEM UNC?  Or is it an error by the auction/dealer?  Or... better yet... the value of these BEK notes sky rocket in value in the past few months?   :P

They place an "Estimate: C $306.00 - C $414.00"  WOW!!!

Here's a photo of the actual note:

I think they must have been looking at the price for the BEK with the Jenkins-Dodge signature that trends at Gem UNC @ 350.00. There note should be BC-63b-i. They maybe didn't look at there book close enough????? That's my guess, maybe someone else has a different idea? What does all you other members think ???

These are printed 2002. I recently sold 2 of these notes on ebay, one being a radar. I think the final prices were $20.00 and $28,00 for them... nothing too special about them.

2003 is a different story :)

Looks like this note has again reappeared on the Montreal Nuphilex Show auction on eBay.

Again, they estimate this note to be valued at:  Estimate: C $315.00 - C $385.00   Starting Bid:  $175 Canadian

They state:  "Bank of Canada, $10.00 note 2001, graded Gem UNC-65, BC-63c, signature Knight Dodge, serial BEK1842122. This is the regular note not the insert."

Is the owner of this note just wishing that this common note will fetch that much and that some buyer whose confused will bid on this?  Or, alternatively, doesn't the auction house screen notes to ensure the value they estimate is deemed to be correct before they go on the auction listing?    I can understand the first time when this was listed, but this is the second time that this note has been listed by the same auction house.

During their last auction in October, I had sent them an e-mail about this auction.  Never heard back a reply.
