BER 2003 Gem Unc Note

Has anybody read the new Canadian Coin News? There is an ad from C&P Numismatics claiming to have a BER 2003 note in Gem Unc  S/N not shown so no official Registry entry. Ad may be seen at:

They are asking $4995 (plus tax of course) for it! 

What does everybody think? A reasonable price for a possible best known "lost prefix" note or totally off the wall?

In my opinion it is dangerous to pay that much for a recent note that the real survival rate is not yet know.

I saw that ad and it really seems like a speculation advertisement....seeing if anyone out there will bite.  I imagine they're looking for a best offer.

They claim its one of 5 known UNC's ...so that's more than we thought was out there (most collectors I've talked to only suspected an AU to UNC but not gem).  This makes one wonder where these gems came from.  For me, it actually puts a cloud of doubt as to the existence of gems, and to the whole numbers of survived notes.

Maybe I'm all wrong about this...but I would think that they're asking about twice what one should be asking for such a note (more around $2500) in search of a very high best offer.  I have to admit that if I did have a lot of spare coin then I would be tempted (to at least make an offer). But, alas, its out of my ballpark.

Maybe there is an implied "Best offer" for it. Couldn't hurt to ask I guess. What I can figure at first glance it may be the only BER Gem note with the new security features.  That alone would make it truly unique. My best imagination can only go so far unless it was manufactured note, personally I believe there more out there than just 5.

I guess the question remains... Are they really as rare as prices show it to be???
Well sure i do believe there were few issued, less than 2,000 but not less than *Z/Z. And i don't really think it should make sense for prices to be aproaching those of *Z/Z. Not yet at least. I mean, i think this prefix only just came into circulation 2 years ago if i am correct.

I think this is a "processed" note, like someone mentioned.

No one EVER came forward with an UNC, let alone a GEM.
However, I did see an AU (too bad it wasn't mine). It was at a coin show.

An AU could be rescued maybe? (and "improved" on?)

I have seen a 2003 BER in original UNC and it may have graded CUnc to GUnc.  It is/was owned by Andy McKaig
(CCGS) and was displayed at Gary Fedora's (sudzee) table at the TICF show.  It was offered to me prior to that
show for $4000 by Andy directly.

Sudzee is in a better position to comment on the actual grade/condition of this note as he has probably
examined it very closely.
