I am first to get graded it by BCS and then by an Art Gallery House in Toronto/Ottawa/Montreal to determine the worth of the banknote and the worth of being a piece of art.  It could be like a Bansky!!!

Yesterday, I received in my change from a Grocery Store in the Ottawa Valley an interesting $10 banknote. Just like Dean's previous posts of listing groceries, people still do write on banknotes even in the age of cell phones and other digital devices.

It appears from my speculation that an Invoice #243 was paid for two brake light bulbs on November 21, 2023 with this banknote.  I have no idea where this banknote came from.

Living on a farm with lots of machinery where repairs can be expensive, I am trying to figure out how two brakelight lamp bulbs could be so inexpensive.  Every time, I go to repair shop, Canadian Tire or the local farm equipment dealer, nothing costs less than $50 including brand new light bulbs for tractors which are LED.  No doubt, for people living in the city, car repairs can be expensive as well.

The challenge here, is to determine what kind of brakelamp bulbs cost less than $10 especially for two of them?  I hope that it is not for a Model T from the 1920's!!!

 May 8th find:

I picked this note out of the mutilated pile at one of my banks.  It’s somebody’s grocery list…Pine Sol, glass cleaner and Toilet Cleaner, all written in old school hybrid cursive script.

I guess this is from the late 80s or early 90s, because the note is signed by Thiessen and Crow.  I guess we also know what the person was doing on that particular day!

I received this Multicolour $10 banknote in my finds from one of my friendly Bank branches in the Ottawa Valley.  The banknote with the prefix FDR was probably printed in 1986 or 1987 and probably release in 1988 as the Bird $10 was released on June 27, 1989.  FDR was the 2nd last prefix of the Multicoloured Series.  The Printer of this banknote, Canadian Banknote Company did not print another $10 banknote until the year 2000 for the Pre-security Journey series.  Journey $10 was released on January 17, 2001.  This would mean that this Printer did not print any $10 banknotes from possibly 1987 to 1999.  As the Journey banknotes included the year the banknote was printed.

Now getting to the real story, you will notice that this banknote was used to buy lunch or dinner, I suspect.  The writing of "2 combo" would suggest a fast food order.  Can you remember the last time you could have order two combos meals for less than $10 including sales tax and get change back.  For me, this would have priced the combo meal for $3.99 before tax.  This would definitely be back to the late 80's or early 90's.  Today, a combo meal is more than the $10 banknote.

Just remembering the good ol'days.
