Good day again, eh?

I'm fairly new to the terms used to describe some CT notes.
I see descriptions of notes with reference to Hook, Top scratch, Bottom scratch, etc.
Can someone explain these. Is a Hook a Prefix that's thin on one side?
I have notes with Serifs that Hook upwards and out from the prefix. It this a hook??
Why don't they teach this stuff in school instead of Calculus? LOL.

Please help...
Is there a reference I can get or site that shows pictures or examples of these.
Thanks in advance for any assistance with this.

Top and bottom scratches
There are some CTC 7 & CTC 8  5¢ and 25¢ coupons that have a black line the size and shape of an eyelash that spans two coupons, forming a bottom scratch on one and a top scratch on the coupon beneath it.
Hooks
There are some CTC 7 & CTC 8  5¢ and 25¢ coupons that have a black print imperfection in the shape of a hook or hairpin above the serial number.
You can get Volume 2 of the Bilodeau Guide to Canadian Tire Money from this site
