Why are radar notes so special?

I know that they are hard to find but.. I understand the single digit radar and the two digit radar but the 3's and 4's i dont understand why there so special?

The 3- and 4-digits radars follows the same rules as the others radars:  the number MUST read the SAME backward as well as forward. 

Examples:  3-digits radars:  3244423,  1123211,  1213121 and so on...there is 4320 such radars per 10 million notes (a full prefix run)

4-digits radars:  4632364, 1234321 (special case called "ladder" note),  9521259,  8620268 and so on.  These radars are probably the least obvious to find.  It takes a careful look to find them.  There is 5040 such radars in a full run of a given prefix.

I know what radar notes are I just wanted to know why people pay so much for them?

They are special. I just enjoy collecting RADARs, and because RADARs are often kept buy collectors and searchers, I got a better chance at matching RADAR serial numbers more than just ordinary numbers.

One real challenge is to try matching Insert/replacement RADARs, hideous are the odds but there is a possibility. Should the right serial numbers come along I would be willing to pay better than book value.

They are one of the easiest things to collect and many people start here for a certain type of collection. They are 1/1000 to find (meaning you can find them in change here and there), and usually are not too expensive.

Also, there are many many people who collect them (and special serial numbers) whom you can trade with.

For me, they don't break the bank per se.  :-)  I can hold on to a few usually.
