For those collectors living in British Columbia:

The Colour of Money opens at the Vancouver Museum on August 25th until October 3.  

The new $20 bill will be unveiled that week in Vancouver featuring Bill Reid's art work. In conjunction with this exhibit the Museum is proposing to display some works by Bill Reid.

Admission is $10 per person (you have access to the entire museum).   Fortunately, I obtained some free passes for the exhibit.

I attended the Colour of Money exhibit in Vancouver along with a few other members of this forum.  

The display is in one room and they have some notes (about 25+ notes) for people to see.  As well, they also displayed a $10 ghost note, as well as two experimental prototype $10 notes before they chose the Journey Series designs.  Quite interesting.

They also show a metal plate from the British American Bank Note Company with an engraving of Sir John A. MacDonald along with the tools used to chisel the metal into a work of art.

There were just a few 1935 notes, 1937, 1954 and some multi-coloured notes.  The emphasis of this display was to provide education information to the public on how to detect fake vs. real notes, as well as to promote the Journey Series.

Together the value of the notes is around $5,000 to $7,000 in value (based on the Charlton catalogue UNC condition).

At the travelling exhibit produced by the Currency Museum of the Bank of Canada, the exhibit celebrates the themes and explores the new Canadian Journey Series of bank notes.  Bank note history, design, production, security features, and aids for the visually imared are all considered.

These notes are owned by the Bank of Canada Currency Museum.

As for the next exhibition, it will be in Calgary at the Nickle Arts Museum from October 13th to mid-February 2005.  

Actually, the October 13th Colour of Your Money exhibit coincides with the national launch of the $50 note in Calgary.  Similarily, the $20 national launch in Vancouver occurred on August 25th which was the same day as the Colour of your Money exhibit.
