Hello all from Calgary,

I just attended the unveiling of the new 50. I was fortunate to have a quick conversation with David Dodge and other family members of the famous five. A very interesting and informative morning.

The Bank of Canada gave away a number of souviner $50'S. and had a few on display for the invited guests.

The prefixes I was able to track at the unveiling were
AHA0130239-AHA0130554

A very nice note indeed..

regards

T.C.

I kind of predicted that the debut prefix on our new $50 would be AHA. ::)  I suppose a lot of forum members predicted the same thing as well! :D

I don't know if it's me, the Mac's monitor or if it's real, but I find the red of the new 50 $ a bit deceiving.   :P  Particularly on the face, it seem to me to be a kind of old pinkish rose and on the back, it's better:  it looks like a bright orange-red, not too bad.  I have to wait until Nov. 17th to be sure... :-/

I have to agree with copperpete... the two sides don't match up--at least not that I have seen here, or on the official site.

Then again, the online pics of the $20 show a much darker green than the actual banknotes are....

so like everyone else, I will reserve judgement on the colour until I get one in my own hands.

(btw, I like the design... the Peace Tower looks stunning!)

On the news, I saw the actual colour of the banknotes. The notes are more redder on the front, not the rather awful looking shade of pink on the website. When we have it in our hands it will be better, just like the $20, $100 looked way better when they were issued at banks, rather than the bad images on the BOC site.
