Anyone have smelly notes?

Picked up some from the multicolor series that are in fairly good shape.  Stored in books.  But they smell musty.

Does anyone know how to remove the smell without damaging the notes? 

Tried baking soda on one.  Put it in a rubbermaid container with the baking soda for a few days.  Didnt work. 

Don't bother. Musty is a fact of life. Trying to remove the smell could add another smell and likely make it worse...

bacteria is usually the cause for smell, you could try putting the note in the freezer and leave it there for a day see if that works.

LMAO, so true.

OK, before anyone complains of receiving flippant answers, I don't know for sure of any method that will remove odours from paper money.  Success probably depends on the series of note and what is causing the stink.  Unfortunately, "stink" would be considered original, so a stinky note should actually trade for a premium over an odourless one  :-D
Seriously, though, if you're not worried about the originality of your notes, I would try soaking them in soapy water.  Try something mild like dish soap.  Then transfer to clean water before drying so the soapy smell is dissipated.  If that doesn't work, ask a dealer how they clean their notes

As I said before ...they don't clean them..they send them to a TPG and get them slabbed 

I bought a PMG graded note from a "reputable" dealer which was PMG 64, but with no EPQ designation. I then contacted PMG to inquire as to why the note did not get an EPQ designation and this was their reply.

The note has odor of bleach and therefore 64 is the highest grade for this note and does not qualify for EPQ. Thank you.

But if stink is original, why waste money getting it slabbed? 

Oh, yeah, I forgot that original notes are cheaper.     Anything that's detrimental to a note's condition is "good" because it's original and anything done to improve the note is "bad" because it's not original.

I have an unemployed friend who I suggested start up a TPG company.
He has anosmia, so I am sure he will get a lot of business from collectors and dealers with smelly notes.  :-D

Would you mind to tell me the series of the note?

You have to be carefull not to put musty smelling notes in with the rest of your collection, because it may make the rest of your notes smell musty to.

Try just leaving the note out in the air and the smell might dissipate a bit.

I was a '37 series..

How about putting the note in an air tight container filled with silica packets...
